DisplayPort 1.1 - one connector above all
The successor to the VGA connectors may arrive soon.
The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has unveiled a new connector approved by its membership, which promises to replace the connectors used so far.
A lockable connector with dimensions similar to a USB connector will be able to replace all of the connectors used today, hopefully eliminating the cavalcade currently in use, which ranges from D-Sub to DVI to HDMI. From HDMI compatibility, it can be assumed that the standard supports the playback and transfer of protected content (Blu-ray, HD-DVD) to displays.
The standard allows two-way data connection, with a maximum bandwidth of 10,8 gigabits per second.
