Redmi phones can jump to 64 megapixels

All indications are that we will soon be able to welcome sensors with a resolution of more than 48 megapixels, which are currently prevalent in Redmi mobiles.

Redmi phones can jump to 64 megapixels

There isn’t too much concrete about this yet, but the signs are all that the shift is near. To be sure, the magic of the 48-megapixel sensors is a thing of the past as they appear in more and more mobile phones, just think of the Redmmii Note 7. So the switch is timely, so much so that the sparrows are chirping that next year will already be about cameras over 100 megapixels.

64 megapixel

Recently, an image appeared on Weibon, Redmi’s official channel, which is said to have been taken with the new 64-megapixel sensor. There is no information yet from which manufacturer the sensor will come from, although at present we only know one such solution, the Samsung ISOCELL GW1. It has a pixel size of 0,8 μm and supports 4 in 1 pixel binning, meaning it can handle 4 pixels as one. This, as with the 48 megapixel sensors, means that the resolution of the resulting image will be a quarter of the actual resolution of the sensor, i.e., 16 megapixels. An XDA developers member discovered that the MIUI camera code already contains strings for managing 64-megabit cameras, and even a watermark for Redmi devices. So the switch is probably imminent, we will soon be able to take even higher resolution, even more detailed photos with our Redmi phones.
