An online firmware update available from the end of 2013 will allow the popular Ultra HD TV to display 4K (3840 × 2160) 60p video signals. Until now, the BRAVIA X9 could only handle 4K videos at 30p frames. Available with free upgrades, Sony 65K Ultra HD TVs in 55 ″ and 4 ″ sizes can receive and display 60p 4K content with a single HDMI cable.

HDMI 2.0, announced at the IFA HDMI Forum, is the latest audio-video interface that can be connected to HD TVs, digital cameras and players, Blu-ray players, computers, game consoles, home theater systems and other audiovisual devices. The increased bandwidth of HDMI 2.0 supports higher video resolution, among other enhancements.

The BRAVIA 84X9000 also gets HDMI 2.0 support thanks to the factory upgrade. The Sony Service Upgrade Program will be launched at the end of 2013.
