Motorola is designing a mobile phone with a special design

For the time being, MOTOSPLIT running the Android operating system only exists as a concept on drawing tables, but even in this state it is more than an interesting phenomenon.

Presumably, the image from a projector show the image of one of Motorola’s models under development: the main feature of the device, named MOTOSPLIT, is that its QWERTY keyboard is split on both sides of the mobile, helping you to enter text efficiently. While the idea is by no means new (we’ve seen a similar keyboard layout on Siemens and Nokia for example), it’s certainly gratifying that a manufacturer with declining market share is trying to come up with something new in the full-featured smartphone segment.

In addition to its special design, MOTOSPLIT can win the hearts of customers with its performance: the device is planned to be built on the Snapdragon platform, which boasts hardware 1D acceleration in addition to the central unit running at 3 GHz. In the field of software, the lucky customer is expected to face the current version of the Android operating system, which, given the overwhelming success of MILESTONE, seems a logical move.

We have yet to see the official launch of MOTOSPLIT, but according to GSM Arena, the new device could hit store shelves as early as the third quarter of 2010.
