Linux phone from LG based on Intel (with video)

Representing a new generation of high-performance smartphones, the model is based on the Intel Moorestown platform, which offers a rich interface that works extremely well with the Linux-based Moblin 2.1 operating system.

LG and Intel announced their cooperation earlier this year at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona.

The LG GW990 is an innovative mobile internet device that combines the high performance and rich internet features of computers with the mobility of smartphones. The 4,8 inches, 2,13: 1 aspect ratio touchscreen provides a remarkable mobile experience, and the 1024 x 480 pixel display allows web pages to be read without scrolling sideways. The device is expected to hit the world market in the second half of 2010.

The user experience provided by devices like the LG GW990 mobile phone will be constantly evolving with 4G enhancements thanks to ever-increasing broadband speeds. The demo version was based on HSPA, but LG said the GW990 is capable of supporting Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks, and the company plans to incorporate this feature in the future. With the introduction of the LG GW990, LG can assert its leading position in the LTE chipset market.

"The Intel Moorestown platform is a perfect example of technical innovation that delivers high performance with significantly lower power consumption." Said Anand Chandrasekher, vice president of Intel and director of the company’s Ultra Mobility Group. "In parallel with the rapid development of broadband wireless networks, Moorestown will provide a rich, PC-like, never-before-seen Internet experience on smartphones like the LG GW990."
