The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800 has arrived
Intel has begun marketing its latest high-end processor, the quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX6800.
The 2,66 GHz QX6700 will be succeeded by the 2,93 GHz QX6800, and accordingly, the previous flagship model will henceforth be named the Core 2 Quad Q6700 in Intel’s product portfolio. The Kentsfield core CPU, built with 65-nanometer manufacturing technology, differs from its predecessor in just a clock, the size of the second-level cache is 2 × 4 MB, while the 1066 MHz value of the FSB has remained unchanged.
The Core 2 Extreme QX6800 will be available from the manufacturer for a high-volume order for $ 1199, but will thankfully be $ 200 cheaper in the third quarter and will have a beneficial effect on the price of previous models, the Q6700 and Q6600.
