Can Apple keep the iPhone name?

As you might have guessed, the legal prince has already begun around the iPhone brand, which is owned by Cisco but also used by Apple.

The Apple on your first mobile phone would also like to use the already well-known "i" sign, as it does in the case of iPod, iMac, iBook, iLife and iTunes, but it looks like the Californian company has now encountered a serious obstacle in this regard.

Apple: iPhone to stay?

It is well known that the iPhone brand name has been owned by Cisco since 2000, so this problem does not come as a surprise to anyone, and Apple will probably buy the right to use the name for a nice sum. It is interesting to mention that Cisco acquired the iPhone brand that year by acquiring Infogear, which company registered it in 1996. At that time, Apple had not yet applied the "i" symbol to its products. Cisco currently uses the iPhone name for its Linksys line of VoIP phones.

Cisco is not reluctant to communicate with Apple, there have been several hearings on the matter, but no substantive results have been achieved so far. The only question is how much Apple is willing to spend on using the iPhone name and when the agreement will be reached. This is also important because Apple will not be able to use the iPhone name until then, as there is a fundamental difference between the two products - Internet and mobile - but their category is almost the same, so using the same name is misleading and infringing.

Updated: some experts say the California company may keep the iPhone name because Cisco's and Apple's products target a different group of customers, even though both can be used for verbal communication.
