Attack of S8 phones, or clones

They’re beautiful, smart, but they have nothing to do with Samsung.

Yesterday a Phones called MIX were examined, today we review Samsung S8 clones, more specifically Chinese phones resembling S8.

A few years ago, it was a perfectly accepted view that what the Chinese industry extracted was nothing more than a copy of a product from a Western manufacturer. This situation now seems to be changing, with more and more Chinese companies producing unique, quality products in their own right, so much so that emerging companies are trying to copy one or the other in the same way as Western competition.

With phones, it’s getting harder to come up with new things, since basically every smartphone looks the same. Larger display on the front, camera on the back, largest battery if possible. This formula is hard to change, so if one manufacturer brings a design innovation that sets their phone out of the crowd, the others will try to ride that success.

Samsung has been the market leader with the Galaxy S series for years. The current top model, the S8, has also become a special phone. The curved edge display, the ever-thinner frame, the rounded corner display and housing are features that make the phone recognizable from afar. It is no coincidence that Chinese manufacturers of cheap phones try to copy these features, say, subtly.

Now, you might think these phones aren’t worth their money, but that’s far from true. The devices below have strong mid-range or even high-end hardware, and on the outside they really resemble, though, mostly only if we squint heavily. Let's see the action!

HOMTOM S8

At the bottom of the supply is this phone, but that doesn’t mean it would be weak. The 5,7-inch 18: 9 aspect ratio HD resolution, in this case a 1440 x 720-pixel display, is powered by an eight-core 1,5 GHz MTK6750T processor. The memory is 4 GB and the mass storage is 64 GB. The front panel camera has an above-average resolution of 13 megapixels, and the back panel has a pair of 16 + 5 megapixel cameras.

The phone is most similar to the original S8 in terms of appearance and rounding of the corners of the housing. An attempt was made to reinforce the similarity with the 2,5D glass, slightly rounded at the edges on the front. At the same time, the outside is especially pleasing to the eye, and the inside is quite strong, so the less than 42 thousand forints requested for it can be called very friendly.

MEIGO S8

MEIIGOO's phone is spit out based on pictures of HOMTOM, but that's just the appearance, there are significant differences between the phones. The CPU, memory, and storage are the same, but the similarity in terms of hardware is also coming to an end here. When designing the MEIIGOO S8, some savings were made on the cameras, so here in addition to the 5 megapixel front camera, a 13 + 5 megapixel pair was placed on the back. What was saved on the cameras, on the other hand, was brought on display. This S8 already has a resolution of 6,1 inches, 1080 x 2160 pixels.

In terms of appearance, we get no plus other than size. The corners of the housing are rounded, but the corners of the display are no longer. The Samsung effect is further enhanced by the 3D glass, which has a similar effect to the curved display of the original S8, but since only the glass is rounded here and the display is not curved, it only helps optically. However, the MEIIGOO phone falls into the recommended category due to its price-performance ratio. They are currently asking for 43 thousand forints.

Blackview S8

In every phone comparison, there is at least one phone that is inexplicably high in price compared to its knowledge. You guessed it, now the Bleckview S8 is this device. In his abilities, he most closely resembles the first player on the list. The two devices have the same capability in terms of both processor, memory and storage pairs, and display. In this, however, the cameras are weaker for more money.

On the outside, there is nothing wrong with this phone anyway. We get the S8 feel normally here too, though they ask for a little bit for it, at least considering the abilities and price of the first two members of the list.

It's worth a look here: Blackview S8

Elephone S8

The fourth S8 is strongly out of line. Based on the name, Samsung is the benchmark, but the shape is more reminiscent of Xiaomi MIX or MIX 2. However, the Elephone is not only different in this, but also in hardware. It has an exceptionally strong hardware and a remarkably good display, and it highlights it not only from this list, but also from Chinese phones in general. This device is also like this week’s star phone a Vernee MIX 2, which I wrote about, turned out to be such a good phone that it really deserved a proper name instead of "stolen".

I've written more about the Elephone S8 here, read: Which is the best Chinese phone for gaming?

You can find the phone here: Elephone S8

If I had to recommend a mobile from the list of four above, it would now be the MEIIGOO S8. Due to the hardware-price ratio, it is a very good reception, and based on the exterior, this phone was able to follow the Galaxy S8 the most. so if you like your Samsung phone but can't or don't want to spend that much money on it, the MEIIGOO S8 will be your phone!
