After the rumor of a lot more foolishly, Xiaomi's new high-tech phone debuted!

Introductory

Xiaomi isn’t slowing down as the end of the year approaches either, it recently unveiled a new member of the Mi Mix series that is already in its 3rd generation - the Mi Mix 2s is a slightly wrinkled version of the 2, they just updated the phone. With this device, the manufacturer has once again shown why they should be taken more seriously, as, of course, other Chinese manufacturers. Here, no one can say anymore that the mobile was made on the basis of the copy-paste principle and would be copied by a different manufacturer than it was in the beginning. With the design of the MIX 3, a form-breaking phone was introduced, reviving a long-used look, rethinking it a bit of course.

Hardware

I do not think we can complain about the specifications of the phone with regard to raw power or any other data communication device. The central unit has remained the well-known and proven Snapdragon 845, which is still made with 8 core 10 nm manufacturing technology. The eight core in practice 4 2,8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold and four 1,7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver seeds. In addition to the processor, the Adreno 630 (710 MHz) graphics accelerator helps to display content. The internal storage space (UFS2.1) can be 128 or 256 GB, and SD card can not be expanded. A sufficient amount of memory is also available on the phone as it is possible to choose between 6 and 8 GB, type LPDDR4.

Wi-Fi 802.11 handles a / b / g / n / ac standards, two-channel, knows MIMO. Bluetooth 5.0 (LE) version. We get the usual support for navigation, besides the GPS system, the hardware supports GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO, QZSS satellites, so fast positioning is guaranteed.

The repertoire has no NFC left, so it is also possible to make non-contact payments, which is safer than paypass paycards. The built-in and only serviceable 3200 mAh battery supports the QC 4.0 Rapid Charging Stand, so the battery can be quickly recycled. If we do not want to do this in the traditional way, we can also have the maximum 10 Watt QI charging mode. The manufacturer did not miss out on the Standard 18W QC3.0 charger, and as a bonus we get the 10 wired wireless charger. I would remind you a little bit, other manufacturers could take this as an example.

Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 also brings the required level for network modes as it supports the B20 network, so 4G does not have to give up on anyone in our small country. The manufacturer promises to have an international version of the phone, though it knows the mandatory stuff that can be used anywhere in the world. It's good news that they will promise the 5G version by the beginning of next year, so the improvements are really high at the manufacturer.

External

To my promise, now comes the exterior, which is why Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 deserves special attention. The physical size of the device is 157,9 x 74,7 x 8,5 millimeters, with 218 gram weight being associated, so the phone can not be said to be small or light. There is a principle for something here and, frankly, I consider these sizes to the manufacturer, considering what they have created.

The old phones of the series have also come out of the vast array of straight phones, let's just think of the front-panel camera on the lower lane or the loudspeaker behind the display. With the latter solution, there were quite a few problems, fortunately the manufacturer listened to the users' complaints, got caught up in their own mistakes, and has already corrected this miserable solution to their offspring.

I wouldn’t start with the look of the phone with the front panel, as it’s there - that’s not the point. Let's start with the back of the phone. Actually, we don’t find anything unusual here either, in the middle line, we find the fingerprint reader at the top third, which is reportedly doing its job at lightning speed. Of course, on the back is the dual camera supported by image stabilizer, which is the 12 megapixel (Sony IMX 363, f / 1.8) main camera and the 12 megapixel (SAMSUNG S5K3M3 + f / 2.4) auxiliary camera, which has been given a telephoto lens.

The LED flash was located between the two cameras. Photography is aided by artificial intelligence, so image processing will be faster and smart modes will be available. MIX 3 received 103 points for photography in the DXOMARK database (the official Xiaomi site mentions 108 points), while it boasts 93 points for video. If these numbers don’t say much, it’s worth mentioning in comparison that the Huawei P20, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, and HTC U12 + got similar scores. There can be no complaint about the camera in terms of points, which is also well illustrated by the official test images.

The mobile has also become strong in terms of video recording, when recording moving images, we have the option of recording in 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60fps, or even 1080p@960fps super slow motion recording.

These are of course just the main features, it is also difficult to list the full repertoire of what we have put into the camera software by the developers. But a little taste: HDR shooting, panoramic shooting, night shooting, portrait (on both cameras) with background blur - this can be done in real time or afterwards, beautification mode (mandatory in China), scene recognition, something like super slow motion video, and we could still list.

The volume keys on the right side of the phone and the power button on the left side of the screen are on the right hand side of the Xiaomi Personal Assistant. This is how Xiao AI can be called up, but the company contacted Google to be the dedicated button on the search engine in international edition. This sounds great, although it is not reinforced, it's just rumor. Also on this page is the SIM tray, which can accept two nano SIMs, but unlike the cheaper one, the second SIM can not be replaced by a microSD card.

The jack connector is missing according to the new trends, at the bottom there is only the USB Type-C connector and the microphone. Xiaomi also thought of those who have a headphone jack with a jack, we also get a USB C-3,5mm converter in the factory box.

The front panel is dominated by a display that greets us back with a huge 6,39 ”size (93,4% coverage on the front panel) that is not broken by the now almost mandatory - and not loved by many - notch. The display is supplied by Samsung, the panel is AMOLED type, with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, which results in a screen aspect ratio of 19.5: 9 and a pixel density of 403 ppi, which is enough for a detailed display.

Another surprising fact is that even if you look at the phone to look for the “mandatory” front camera, it is not found on the front panel. Of course, we don’t miss the phone, only the engineers and designers took out an old design and hid it from our sight. And it is precisely this screw in the phone that makes it stand out from the usual, almost one-plane field. Sliding the front of the phone down brings up the cameras, which are the 24 megapixel (SONY IMX576) self-timer camera and the 2 megapixel (OmniVision OV02A10) auxiliary sensor. The latter detects the depth, so it can be used for portrait mode.

The sliding of the back plate is not motorized, but with the help of strong magnets and rails. A strong clicking sound indicates that the back cover is in the correct position. The manufacturer is so confident in the mechanism that it guarantees 300 closures on and off. This means 274 opening-closing cycles per day based on three years of use, which we will almost certainly not take advantage of. Hopefully, users will verify that the solution is working properly and there will be no issues with it.

The device is available in four colors: Jade Green, Sapphire Blue, Onyx Black and Forbidden City Blue. The latter will be a limited version with 10 GB memory and a gift scrap in the package as a surprise.

Szoftver

The phone already uses the MIUI 9 system based on Android 10 (Pie). Anyone who has used MIUI before does not need to be introduced. Personally, I loved it for the first time because it is customizable, its structure is logical, it has a lot of useful programs and settings, and with version 10, the interface was rethought. The software buttons have disappeared (thankfully resettable), but the focus is on gesture control, which is very useful, and new ringtones have arrived with the interface - inspired by nature, they sound pleasant - and other small refinements have made the phone even more manageable. Last but not least, I have to note that MIUI knows the Hungarian language, so no one will have a problem with that either.

Cue

The Xiaomi MIX 3 was one of the best-looking mobile this year, as it was the first to say goodbye to the many hated notch. In addition, no complicated mechanisms are used to hide and pre-detonate front-panel cameras, for example, no extra engine, which highlights the camera island. We think it is more fortunate for the ears as well, because if we accidentally open our pocket, it can cause serious galaxies.

Before the release, we heard rumors that the MIX 3 will receive the latest Snapdragon processor, but as this news has not been verified. It would have been strange, as Snapdargon 855 will only officially be introduced later. We now expect that as with the predecessor model, we will later get a wrinkled version, it may be again marked S and the deck of course with the promise of the future with the Snapdragon 855 chip.

In China, the basic model can be purchased for 3299 yuan, which is roughly equivalent to 135.000. It is not possible for Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 to travel to Europe at such a price, but it is certainly a cause for hope that our favorite manufacturer does not even attempt to seize the 1000 price level even on its peak device set. Of course, knowing the business policy of the company, that really does not surprise anyone.
