Monitor for me, you, us! – by LG

 

We spoke about controlling body. That is attaching to menu directly. Menu shows up above the touch-sensitive surface, leds and arrows help us to control. We can step to right or left, and jump up or down, set the functions in the menu with these buttons.

 

We can find LG Flatron f-Engine here too. It means a picture corrective technology, we can edify contrast (ACE – Adaptive Contrast Enhancer), edify color to get near to nature colors ( RCM – Real Colour Management), and edify noise and color distortion (DCM – Digital Contrast Mapping). Opportunities sound great and can handle easily in four pre-programmed profile. These are Normal, Movie, Internet and Demo modes. The last one is not a normal profile, just shows the difference between original and correction state.

We cannot find Smart package at any other manufacturer. There are brightness settings, which adjust backlit by outside light. There are the automatic picture ratio watcher and movie mode switching too, of course these options good for film watching.

The menu deserves A+. It can be modify easily, fast and the touch-sensitive buttons are very useful. Only the capable active buttons light, the others are dark, so we cannot lose the navigation and we know every time, what button should be pressed.

Before the picture rate, let’s see extras of E2350V! We can find an ACR codenamed mode, which analyses content of picture automatically, a DCE codenamed, which correct grey-shade, and a DCM which reduce noise and color distortion. Players will be happy with ARC, because it is responsible for games and 4:3 or 16:9 ratio supports, and set the display about it. So old games with 4:3 ratio will shows without distortion.

As we can see LG did not save with acronym. A tester will not fall for them, and try to justify its utility at the review.

Let’s see the picture!

It is not bad to clear in first step, the display’s resolution is FullHD, size is 23” and respond time is 5 ms. The last one is not the best, and we will see it, is it enough or not. We can find in the manufacturer’s data the contrast ratio, and as it used to be, a huge number. So let’s take a little bypass again. I will not explain how did they calculate contrast ratio. Just what does it mean in reality?

If you did not see a usual backlit LCD and plasma abreast, you must know there is a huge difference. We can see real black at plasma, but LCD is not in the neighbor neither. Best we can get is dark grey and it can be better or worse at different areas in the display. It is because of the technique of lighting, the fluorescent lamps in the edge so lighting is not equal and it shines at bad pixels too.

The big changing with LED-backlit is not that the LED is lighting than fluorescent lamps. The reason is the area where are these lighting. But we should take care of some manufacturer put on its box, LEDs are lighting, but as the usual LCDs at the edge. So the good LED-backlit displays light behind the panel, split it to cells. Contrast ratio, so black as better as we find more cells. It is easy, where LEDs and cells are a good many, we can split the panel to little pieces, and there is black only, the display do not turn on LED, so black will be black.

LCD displays can approach plasmas with this method,  we cannot say first watch which is a plasma and LCD in bright stores neither.

And there is the big bang, LG’s display has the previous technology. It was a surprise, because blacks are so good, we could not say it and imagine what can be the difference between the two LED layout.

Ok, after this monologue we can try the monitor, because as we know, we can know something if we try it. Just like pudding, but LG did not give us food, so we must see the picture. As we mentioned it has 5 ms respond time, it is not a good number, but in FPS game we did not see any sign of blur, we watched it like an eagle.

There was something we did not like, the quality of colors. Every color looked like steely with default settings. There were lot of blue, less green and red. We tried everything, profiles too, but colors did not look fine. The medicine was three color manual setting. 100% red, 60% green and 40% blue. We did not use color pattern, but we get good picture with these settings like we used to at FullHD notebooks and monitors.

Insight angle was very good. Thanks for reflection free panel, than the rival manufacturer’s solution. Nobody can wait for miracle, because it is a TN panel too, and we mentioned a lot of time its disadvantage. Picture did not grow dark from edgy angle neither, little texts was staying readable too. But we cannot dispute that we got the best picture face to face.
