We tried – IPS display revolution by LG

LG produced correct design at the display market in the recently. Altough style of Far East differ from European but it cannot surprise in the act about lot of models. Generally we can meet some little piquancy like the silver arc under the blue LED.

The looking is a little bit different from other high-end LG displays’. Rim is wider, weight and thickness is more than usual against LED backlighting. Of course chunk is relative because only super-slim led displays are thinner, it achieves half of usual TN panel with CCF backlight.

We skip dissertation about menu again because we did it in some previous articles. The monitor has some interesting software ability. For example it can divide the display between two browser while we do not have to set the width of windows and it is capable for enchance video contents from the background: video area stays light but other parts of the display become gray at Youtube. These small attentions from the manufacturer what we did not miss but if we start to use we easily season with them.

We mentioned about IPS panel the good picture quality, rightly that serious difference which tells apart from TN + film panels, of course in the good way. You can make sure with seeing the following picures. If you sit behind a traditional TN panel display than watch the difference is worthy!

You can see the pictures which took by display below. These are provided to show backlight passing through or tint. As we wrote traditional TN+film technology cannot visualize 16 million of tones and they use software tricks for better transition, — which is not quite right for IPS technology–. The third moment is the viewing angle. We enchanced that in the event of TN panel in a bad way because manufacturers represent extreme high angles but we got unenjoyable picure from these angles. We can find grave defects of colors and brightness. These limit given by the technology. Crystals alignment differ from IPS and enjoyable picture above 170 degrees due to IPS technology. 

Some picures are bigger than 1 MB because we try to show you the best picure quality. Of course these statements right for clicked, downloaded big picures but get ready for more loading time.

We want to summarize skills in a few sentences. Firstly we have to notice the camera cannot give back fully the difference what only our eyes can find between TN and IPS technology.

Let’s start with color transitions. Surprisingly we felt less difference than what we waited. IPS technology is capable to show 16 million colours while TN panel can only 262 thousands. Even so  we have to say that the more expensive TN panel displays can produce very good colours thank to the software tuning. Worthy to notice again there are not too much difference between TN panel and TN panel but we have to think which monitor we buy because good softwares makes better picure quality. Sadly it does not mean that every expensive monitor by every admitted manufacurer is good. There are several easy test applications what we can carry for display shopping. Do not be shy it is worth it. There are not more’s the pity if you dissapoints at home.

Viewing angle. Two important thoughts. One: we forgot to record vertical viewing angles so you have to settle for our words. There were no problems. The other one: there are difference between TN panel and IPS panel in picures but there are huge gap in the reality. Practically there are no brightness loss and tone decay neither. We did not try take photo from extreme angles about TN panel, that would be pointless. We hope everything can visible on the pictures!
